Rafael Ciro Marques Cavalcante

Graduated in Pharmacy from the Federal University of Ceará (2004), Master in Biological Sciences (Microbiology) from the University of São Paulo (2008) and PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of São Paulo with an abroad period at Harvard Medical School (2014). Since 2014, I have held the position of professor of higher education at the Federal University of Sergipe - Campus Lagarto. At this University I was a member of the Higher University Council - CONSU (2017-2021), current member of the Research and Extension Council - CONEPE (2022- Current), member of the Coordinating Committee of the Institutional Program for Scientific Initiation Scholarships - COMPIBIC (2017- 2021) and Course Coordinator and Head of the Department of Pharmacy (2016-2019). I teach and develop research and extension activities in the areas of Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Biology, mainly in activities related to the bioactive effects of natural products, clinical microbiology, vaccine development and expression of recombinant proteins. During the pandemic period, I actively acted in mitigating risks related to the health emergency both in the university public and in the general population. We took over testing in our municipality, brought the COVID-19 monitoring center to the campus, worked on testing projects in several municipalities in the state and participated and developed work on the spread and control of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
