Flávia Chiva Carvalho

Leader of the Drug Delivery Systems Laboratory (LSLF) at the Federal University of Alfenas (UNIFAL-MG) and professor in the postgraduate program in Pharmaceutical Sciences, with a focus on drug development and nanotechnology since 2013. Graduated in Pharmacy (2005) from FCFAR/UNESP, followed by a Masters and Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Technology, funded through CAPES (2009), CNPq, and FAPESP (2012) at the same institution. Completed a sandwich Ph.D. at Queen's University, Belfast, U.K. (2011-2012), also as a CAPES fellow. Recognitions include the 2013 CAPES Thesis Award for the best thesis in Brazil in Pharmacy, an Honorable Mention at the XIII Congress of the South American Pharmaceutical Federation-FEFAS (2009), and the 3rd Best Work Award at the European Foundation for Clinical Nanomedicine-CLINAM 6 (2013). Authorship includes 22 peer-reviewed articles, one book chapter, and three patents. Coordinated projects have received funding from CAPES, CNPq, and FAPEMIG. A postdoctoral opportunity arose through an UNESP/Ferring Pharmaceuticals agreement, Switzerland (2013-2016), leading to a position as RD Manager at the multinational Ferring Pharmaceuticals, where leadership of the FIBRA - Ferring Innovation Brazil laboratory (2018-2022) and collaboration with NILE - Nanotechnology Innovation Laboratory Enterprise were undertaken. This work included partnerships on nanotechnology platform development with Aché LTDA. Expertise was developed in QbD-based prototype creation, technology transfer, advancing technology readiness levels from TRL 3 to TRL 9, DDCM preparation, and the execution of Phase 1, 2, and 3 clinical studies.
