Laís Forti Thomaz is an Assistant Professor at Federal University of Goiás (UFG), former Coordinator of the Nucleus of Global Studies (NEG) and a Politizar Program Coordinator. Politizar is a civic educational program where she manages 13 interns in 7 different projects. She is also a Founder and the Public Affairs Coordinator of the Sergio Vieira de Mello UNHCR Academic Chair at the UFG. She has been an Advanced Biofuels USA Board Member since 2017. Dr. Thomaz received her PhD and M.A degrees in International Relations and developed her first Postdoctoral researcher at San Tiago Dantas Graduate Program supported by Unesp, Unicamp and PUC-SP. Her PhD dissertation focuses on the role of advocacy groups in the shaping of ethanol trade policies. She started her studies about the ethanol policies during her undergraduate course as a undergraduate researcher. She was a Visiting Scholar to develop part of her PhD at the Department of Government at Georgetown University (2014/2015). She is currently a Postdoctoral researcher at the University of Brasilia (2021-2022) She has a vast scholarship recipient record: Ibero-American Santander Universities Grant Program - 2008; Brazilian Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) - 2010-2011/2016; Sao Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) 2009 / 2012-2016 and Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) 2017-2018; FAP-DF Team Project Grant - 2019-Present. She has also attended the Public Affairs and Advocacy Institute (PAAI) and European Public Affairs and Advocacy Institute (EPAAI) promoted by American University. She is also the Scholar Winner at the 2015 National Ethanol Conference Award promoted by Renewable Fuels Assn and Renewable Fuels Foundation. In 2011, her research was the winner of the Top Ethanol Award promoted by the Brazilian Sugarcane Ethanol Industry Assn. Editora Unesp published her Master thesis as a book. Since 2009 she has been a researcher at National Institute of Science and Technology for Studies on the United States (INCT-INEU) and a member of the Brazilian Network of Biokerosene and Renewable Hydrocarbons for Aviation (RBQAV). She was a research intern at the Americas Program at Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC in 2015. Dr. Thomaz was part of the Brazilian Private Sector Delegation in its Advocacy Mission in Washington DC in 2017 and she was part of the UFG Mission to China in order to create a Confucius Institute at the University.
