Leonardo Ferreira Almada is Professor of Philosophy (Associate Level IV) at the Institute of Philosophy of the Federal University of Uberlândia (IFILO-UFU, Uberlândia-MG) and in the Graduate Program in Philosophy (Doctorate and Masters) of the Federal University of Uberlândia (POSFIL-UFU, Uberlândia-MG). He is the Lead Coordinator of the Research Project Philosophy/Psychology of Old Age and Aging from the Perspectives of Psychoanalysis and Historical-Cultural Psychology, registered at the Research Directorate (DIRPE-UFU) of the Deans Office for Research and Graduate Studies (PROPP-UFU) of the Federal University of Uberlândia, under registration number DIRPE/PSFE N 005/2025. He holds a Bachelors degree (1999-2002) in Philosophy from the Institute of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (IFCS-UFRJ), having defended his Final Course Monograph, titled Farias Brito as a Contemporary of Husserl, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Luiz Alberto Cerqueira. He is currently an Undergraduate student (2022-) in Psychology at the Federal University of Uberlândia (IP-UFU), conducting research in Psychology of Old Age and Aging from Psychoanalytic and Historical-Cultural Perspectives under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Rodrigo Sanches Peres. He holds a Masters degree in Philosophy (2003-2005) from the Graduate Program in Philosophy of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (PPGF-UFRJ), having defended his Masters Dissertation, titled The Ontological Meaning of Evil in Saint Augustine, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Luiz Alberto Cerqueira. He earned his Doctorate in Philosophy (2006-2009) from the Graduate Program in Philosophy of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (PPGF-UFRJ), having defended his Doctoral Thesis, titled The Idea of Philosophy as a Science of the Spirit in Brazil, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Luiz Alberto Cerqueira. He completed three Postdoctoral Research Periods: (i) 2009-2011, at São Paulo State University Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP, Botucatu-SP), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Alfredo Pereira Junior, with research titled The Proposal of an Affective Neuroscience: An Epistemological Analysis of the Taxonomy of Human Emotions Elaborated by Jaak Panksepp; (ii) 2016-2017, at the Federal University of Goiás (UFG, Goiânia-GO), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. André Porto, with research titled The Organism as the Foundation of the Conscious Mind: Relations of Integration and Interaction between Brain, Body, and Environment; (iii) 2022-2023, at the University of São Paulo (USP, São Paulo-SP), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Osvaldo Frota Pessoa Junior, with research titled The Organism as the Foundation of the Conscious Mind: An Embodied and Emergentist Perspective on the Problem of Consciousness-Mind-Brain-Body-Environment Relations. His general research interests revolve around Philosophy and Psychology of Old Age and Aging from the Perspectives of Psychoanalysis and Historical-Cultural Psychology. Throughout his academic training and career in Research, Teaching, Mentorship, and Outreach in Philosophy and Psychology, he has been predominantly engaged with the Mind-Body Relations Problem.
