Agronomist Engineer, from Julio de Mesquita Filho Sao Paulo University (1991), master's degree in Biological Sciences from Sao Paulo University (1997), PhD in Genetics and Plant Breeding from Escola Superior de Agricultura Luiz de Queiroz (2002), Since 2005, she has a researcher position at the Sugarcane Center, Campinas Agronomic Institute (IAC), Brazil. Specialist in plant biotechnology, focusing on gene prospection involved with biotic and abiotic stresses in sugarcane, sugarcane transformation, functional genomics, gene editing, plant micropropagation in temporary immersion systems, development of diagnostic methods for sugarcane diseases and testing of chemical and biological inputs. Since 2016, she has been working on public-private research projects, focusing on development of genetically modified sugarcane cultivars aiming to increase productivity, tolerance to drought stress, modification of the cell wall and resistance to herbicides. Dr Silvana has stood out in leading sugarcane genetic engineering projects, focusing on the use of proprietary technologies, developed over two decades of scientific research.
