Mariana received her bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the State University of São Paulo (UNESP) in 2010. In 2014 she received a Master's Degree in Immunology from the University of São Paulo (USP), with research conducted at the Immunochemistry Laboratory at the Butantan Institute, on the effect of a potential immunomodulator on neutrophil activation. In 2018 she was awarded her PhD in Immunity and Infection at the University of Birmingham (England, 2018), with research aimed at studying the effect of ageing on neutrophil activation by S. pneumoniae. During her PhD, she also conducted research in partnership with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), evaluating the effect of experimental pneumococcal colonization in immunity of older adults. She is currently a postdoctoral associate at Stony Brook University (US), studying the role of a pancreatic cancer biomarker in disease aggression. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
