Graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Marine Sciences Education (1994) and a Bachelor's Degree in Marine Biology (1997) from the Universidad Católica del Norte, Faculty of Marine Sciences, Coquimbo, Chile. Earned a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (Botany area) in 2002 from the Department of Botany at the Institute of Biosciences, University of São Paulo (USP). Completed postdoctoral research at the Laboratory of Marine Algae Édison José de Paula, IB-USP (20022004). Faculty member at IB-USP since April 2005 (currently, Associate Professor).I work in the field of phycology, addressing multidisciplinary aspects related to the physiology, chemistry and biochemistry, molecular biology, bioprospecting, and mariculture of benthic macroalgae.Some of my research interests include studying stress physiology (e.g., the effects of global climate change, irradiance, UV radiation, nutrients, heavy metals, salinity, etc.) and exploring the chemical biodiversity (e.g., antioxidant and bioactive potential against bacteria, viruses, and fungi, allelopathy, etc.) of macroalgae for their sustainable exploitation in goods and ecosystem services.
