His research focuses on the phenotypic and molecular evolution of bivalve molluscs, with an emphasis on sensory systems, employing functional and phylogenetic approaches. Methods and topics of interest: evolutionary convergence, homology, evolutionary radiation, visual systems, photo- and chemoreceptors, comparative phylogenetic methods, gene expression, RNAseq, anatomy and development, phylogenetic systematics, morphological data, molecular data and microscopy techniques.
