Graduated in Biological Sciences from the University of São Paulo (1991), master's degree in Physical Geography from the University of São Paulo (1997), doctorate and post-doctorate in Sciences from the Federal University of São Paulo (2001 and 2010). Titular Professor at the Federal University of São Paulo - Campus Diadema where she coordinates the activities of the Center for Ethnobotanical and Ethnopharmacological Studies. She is a permanent advisor to the Chemical Biology Program at UNIFESP. Is an ad hoc advisor to the São Paulo State Research Support Foundation (FAPESP) and reviewer for several national and foreign journal. Between 1994 and 2001, carried out six ethnobotanical and/or ethnopharmacological surveys between different cultures and in different Brazilian biomes and directed other 40 studies in these areas. Develops projects in the area of plants and animals used for food, medicinal and/ or toxic by cultures of the past and the present; either to increase the understanding of the relationship man x nature, indication of bioactive potentials and assessment of public health risks involved in their use. Also developed projects in the area of zoopharmacognosia, seeking greater understanding in the relationship between primates and medicinal plants; and studies in the area of traditional use and management. Is currently dedicated to research and scientific dissemination activities on the Endocannabinoid System and Cannabis sativa L. In 2025, within the approach of Participatory Ethnobotany that coined, supervised the first indigenous ethnobotanist in the world to recover the medicinal knowledge of his people and publish it in an international journal, with his work being featured in more than 370 newspaper articles, in addition to publication in the Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine, recognizing its unprecedented nature.
