Birthplace: Brazil

My research is focused on the synthesis and characterization of novel conducting polymers mainly of the poly(p-phenylevenvinylene) (PPV) and poly(p-xylylene) (PPX) families. I also investigate the practical applications of these materials such as for use as gas sensors and electronic noses for application in environmental chemistry, magnetoresistive devices, field effect transistors, solar cells and electroluminescent devices. My research has resulted in numerous journal publications, patents, and book chapters. I have also been recognized for my work via awards such as a prize from Petrobras, the largest Brazilian company for gas and petrol exploration, for my team’s work concerning electronic noses for volatile organic compound (VOC) detection. In addition, my biography has been regularly published in Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who in Science & Engineering since 1999. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
