Graduated in Medicine from the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (1991). Residence in internal medicine in Santa Casa de Belo Horizonte, residency in infectious diseases at the University of São Paulo. Master in Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (1996) and PhD in Infectious Diseases at the University of São Paulo (2000). She is a board-certified intensivist by the Brazilian Association of Intensive Care Medicine (AMIB) since 1997. She was the Editor-in-chief of the Brazilian Journal of Intensive Care, the oficial journal of Brazilian Association of Intensive Care Medicine and the Portuguese Society of Critical Care from 2010-2015, being now associate editor .She is currently associate professor and chief of the Division of Critical Care in the Department of Intensive Care at Escola Paulista de Medicina - Federal University of São Paulo. Her area of expertise is critical care medicine, with emphasis on sepsis, and she is currently Chief Executive Officer of the Latin American Sepsis Institute(LASI). She was also president of the Brazilian Research in Intensive Care Network - BRICNET being now member of the Scientific Committee. She is member of the Latin America Research Network (LIVEN).. Member of the council of International Sepsis Forum. Member of the Surviving Sepsis Campaign board on 2012, 2016, 2021 and 2025 and currenly part of the Executive comittee representing the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine. She is an honorary member of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine. She was the scientific diretor for the Associação de Medicina Intensiva Brasileira, 2018-2019 (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
