With a Degree of Biology from Universidade de São Paulo (1981), Master of Science (Genetics) from Universidade de São Paulo (1984) and PhD of Education from Universidade de São Paulo (1991). Full Professor of Science Education at Universidade de São Paulo (tenured, 2000; Senior, 2018), And Professor of Science Education at Universidade Federal de São Paulo (since 2019), was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (London) and Expert of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystems Services (IPBES) of the United Nations for the period 2014-2019. Is Scientific Coordinator of the Research Nucleus on Evolution Epistemology, Education and Outreach (EDEVO-Darwin) of the University of São Paulo, and the Thematic Project BIOTA/Fapesp-Education (2018-2023), which congregates five academic institutions (USP, UFABC, UNIFESP, USCS and Bitantan Institute). Has experience in Education, focusing on Education-Learning, acting on the following subjects: science education, biological education, evolution education, history of darwinism, evolutionary biology and science teacher preparation.
