Luciene holds a doctorate in Geography from UNESP in Rio Claro, São Paulo (2005). She further enhanced her academic training with postdoctoral research at the University of Seville, Spain, in 2017, and at PUC-Minas in 2024. A significant milestone in her professional career occurred in 2002, when she joined the FUNAI team responsible for the identification and demarcation of the Apurinã Indigenous Land in the state of Amazonas, in collaboration with UNESCO. Since 2006, she has been a professor in the undergraduate Geography program at UNESP, Ourinhos campus (São Paulo), and an accredited advisor in the Graduate Program in Geography at UNESP, Rio Claro (São Paulo). She leads Cenpea (Center for Environmental Perception and Education) and the research group 'Landscape, Culture, and Territory' (GEOPaisagem), established in 2015 and affiliated with RedeCT (International Network of Researchers on Indigenous Peoples and Traditional Communities). Additionally, she contributes to the GHUM (Humanistic and Cultural Geography) and Patrimônios research groups. With extensive experience in Geography, her work focuses on topics such as landscape epistemology, territories and cultures, Indigenous ancestral landscapes, landscapes and memories, mapping, toponymy, and decolonial approaches to landscapes.
