Leila Maria Cardao Chimelli

Medical doctor (pathologist) graduated in 1976, residence in pathology (1978), master's degree in pathology from Universidade Federal Fluminense (1980) in the State of Rio, Brazil. Ph.D in Neuropathology from University of London (1982-1985). Post-doc in Neuropathology in the University of Paris (1989). Professor of Pathology in the School of Medicine, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1998-2011). Co-ordinator of Research and Molecular Diagnosis of the Pathology Division of the National Institute of Cancer from July 2011 to July 2013. Co-ordinator of the Laboratory of Neuropathology at the State Institute of Brain in Rio de Janeiro since August 2013. Has experience in Neuropathology, focusing on the following subjects: Brain tumors, peripheral neuropathies, muscular pathology, AIDS, infections, prion dissesses, with important publications in international books and Journals. Has supervised several MD and PhD students, has had important representations in neuropathological societies and was the President of the Internacional Congress of Neuropathology in Rio in 2014.
