Suelene holds a degree in Physics from the University of São Paulo (2008), a masters degree in Scientific and Technological Policy from the State University of Campinas (2012), and a PhD in Production Engineering from the School of Engineering at the University of São Paulo (2016), both funded by FAPESP research grants. She completed a sandwich PhD at the Department of Economics and Statistics at the University of Turin, funded by CAPES (2015-2016), and was a visiting researcher there in 2017, supported by the I@UNITO project. Her postdoctoral work includes a position at the Department of Economics at the Federal University of São Carlos (2017-2019), with a CAPES grant, a role on the Innovation Systems, Strategy and Policy - InSySPo project (2019) funded by FAPESP, and another position at the Institute of Economics at the State University of Campinas, also funded by FAPESP (2021-2024). She was also a visiting researcher in Economic Geography at Utrecht University (2023), supported by a FAPESP research grant. Currently, she is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Economics at the State University of Campinas, with a CNPq research grant (2024-present). Her expertise in Economics covers Industrial Economics, Economic Geography, and Innovation, with a focus on knowledge spillovers, agglomeration, related and unrelated variety, regional diversification, regional economic complexity, academic productivity, and university-industry collaboration. The project consists in studying the impact and extent of different forms of public funding on the degree of novelty of innovation in Brazil. The hypothesis is that the public support is related with different degrees of novelty of innovation, and it is public support for R&D that can generate the innovations of higher degree of novelty, as new-to-the-world.
