He holds an undergraduate degree in Statistics from ENCE-National School of Statistical Sciences (1968), a Masters in Statistics from the University of São Paulo (1971), an MSc from Florida State University - FSU (1978) and a PhD in Statistics (1980) from FSU. He has the title of Full Professor obtained in 1984 and was approved in an adjunct exam in 1988. He was a full professor at the University of São Paulo USP from 1990. Until his retirement in 2016. He has been a Senior Professor at USP since 2016. He was a visiting Research Engineering at UC-Berkeley, from 1986 to 1988. He was a Visiting Professor at UF of Mato Grosso do Sul -UFMS from 6/2018 to 5/2020. He has experience in the areas of Probability and Statistics, with an emphasis on Fundamentals of Statistics, working mainly in medical, biological and financial applications. Her favorite subjects are Bayesian Prediction, Hypothesis Tests and Bioinformatics. He was head of the Statistics department at IME/USP for 3 times, in the last period until August 2013 and is principal researcher of FAPESP's thematic projects. He was director of IME-USP in the 90's (94-98) He participated in numerous examination boards for the teaching career and defense of master's or doctoral degrees or Free Teaching (livre docência). These contests were held both at USP and at other Brazilian or international universities, such as Portugal, Chile and the USA. He has supervised around 29 masters and 30 doctorates. He was an OAS observer in several elections in Latin America (nicaragua, El Salvador, Haiti and Paraguay). He did not list many presentations at congresses so there would be no duplication of information on relevant works already published. He works as an ad hoc consultant for CNPq, CAPES and FAPESP.
