Full Professor and Head of the Department of Philosophy and General Theory of Law at the University of São Paulo Law School, where, since the 1980s, he has uninterruptedly taught Legal Sociology (undergraduate) and Methodology of Legal Teaching (Master's and Doctorate), having also created and taught other subjects, such as Sociology of the Constitution (undergraduate and graduate). He has also been head of department in previous terms and chairman of the post-graduation committee of FD-USP. Bachelor (1972), Master (1977), Doctor (1981), and Professor (1982) in Law at USP, he did post-doctorate studies at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA (1984). Emeritus Member of the Brazilian Association of Researchers in Sociology of Law (ABraSD), he was the honored of its IX International Congress for his pioneering and leadership in the field (2018). Winner of the Jabuti Prize for literature with the book O Estado e o direito depois da crise (2012). He is also the author of The law in the globalized economy, translated and published in Spain by the prestigious Editorial Trotta. His most recent books are: Bone chest of a sociologist of law (2018), Corruption, Justice and Public Morality (2019), Freedom of expression and the new media (2020) and Rights, politics and science in times of pandemic (in press, 2022). Named among the six most cited jurists in academic works in Brazil (AD Scientific Index/ GoogleScholar, 2021). He has been awarded as the supervisor of the best thesis at USP, having concluded the supervision of 60 master's, doctorate and post-doctorate researches. Winner of the Spencer Vampré Award, for best FDUSP professor in 2021. He was a member of the committee for the area of law and economics of CNPq and the coordinator of human sciences of FAPESP for three terms. He was a member of the editorial board of the International Institute for Sociology of Law and Visiting Professor at the University of Brasilia, the Università del Salento (Italy), the Universidad Internacional de Andalucía and the Universidad Pablo Olavide (Spain). He works in the areas of Legal Sociology, Philosophy of Law, General Theory of Law, Methodology of Legal Teaching, researching the following topics: social change, power and legitimacy, human rights, globalization, transformations of the Judiciary, social rights and legal efficacy.
