Edison Barbieri is an oceanographer specializing in biological and geological oceanography, holding a masters degree in physical geography. He earned his Ph.D. in Oceanography, with an emphasis on Biological Oceanography, from the University of São Paulo (USP) in 2000. Between 2017 and 2023, he was recognized as one of the most influential scientists worldwide, according to the Stanford University (USA) and Elsevier BV rankings (https://elsevier.digitalcommonsdata.com/datasets/btchxktzyw/1; https://elsevier.digitalcommonsdata.com/datasets/btchxktzyw/3; updated version, October 19, 2021, DOI: 10.17632/btchxktzyw.3). Since 2009, he has held a productivity fellowship from CNPq and has served as a member of the university council, the postgraduate council, and the Council of the Institute of Advanced Studies at USP. His academic career includes professorships at the University of São Francisco, University of São Camilo, and Federal University of Sergipe, as well as 13 years as a science and environmental columnist for Cidade Nova magazine, where he published 130 outreach articles. Currently, he is a Level 6 Researcher and a tenured professor in the Aquaculture and Fisheries graduate program at the Fisheries Institute, as well as in the Biodiversity of Coastal Ecosystems graduate program at UNESP, São Vicente. He serves as Director of the Regional Research Center for the Southern Coast and, from 2021 to 2024, coordinated the graduate program at the Fisheries Institute. Barbieri served as Editor-in-Chief of the Boletim do Instituto de Pesca for three years and, since 2006, has been the scientific editor of the journal O Mundo da Saúde, also serving on the editorial board of four other scientific journals. As a visiting professor, he taught courses and co-supervised research projects at the University of Costa Rica and San Carlos University in Guatemala. He participated in the Antarctic expeditions of PROANTAR in the summers of 1996/1997 and 1997/1998, in addition to LEAD International sessions in Cuba and Moscow and five missions with the International Atomic Energy AgencyUN, where he served as an ecotoxicology expert in Uruguay, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panama, and Brazil. Since 2013, he has been a member of the Committee on Bioassays of the Latin America and Caribbean Analytical Network (RELACA). His extensive academic portfolio includes 174 articles published in scientific journals, 135 works presented at conference proceedings, and 180 outreach articles. He is the author of six books and 26 book chapters and has produced 61 technical items. He participated in 37 international and 26 national events. He has supervised two postdoctoral projects, 27 masters theses, eight undergraduate research projects, and five undergraduate final projects in Ecology. In recognition of his impact in the socio-environmental field, he was awarded Brazil's Professional of the Year by BRASLIDER in 2015, 2016, and 2017. Edison Barbieri has also coordinated 18 research projects and primarily works in Oceanography, with a focus on interactions between marine organisms and environmental parameters (Marine Ecology).
