Graduated in 1983 from the Veterinary Medicine course at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics of the University of São Paulo (FMVZ/USP), specializing in Experimental Pathology, at the University of São Paulo (1984) and specializing in Animal Toxicology, at the Pontifical Catholic University RS and ABEAS/MEC (1985). She completed her Master's (1986) and PhD (1988) in the postgraduate program in Experimental and Comparative Pathology at FMVZ/USP. She is currently a Full Professor at the Department of Pathology, FMVZ/USP. Her research lines within Pharmacology include the evaluation of the efficacy of veterinary drugs; in Veterinary Toxicology, toxic plants of agricultural interest and toxicity of medicinal plants. Proposal of animal models for safety evaluation. She has published around 130 scientific papers. She is the author of the books "Farmacologia Aplicada à Medicina Veterinária" (7th ed), "Farmacologia Aplicada à Avicultura", "Medicamentos em Animais de Produção", "Toxicologia Aplicada à Medicina Veterinária" (2nd ed) and "Plantas ornamentais e alimentos de origem vegetal tóxicos para animais de companhia". She is the author of dozens of book chapters. Since 1991 she has been the coordinator of the Center for Research in Veterinary Toxicology (CEPTOX), FMVZ/USP. Since 2005 she has represented the Federal Council of Veterinary Medicine on various Commissions and Working Groups related to veterinary drugs, at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), Ministry of Health (MS) and National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA). Since 2016 she has been acting on the Committee of Experts in food additives - veterinary drugs (JECFA) of the United Nations Organization for Agriculture and Food and the World Health Organization (FAO/WHO).
