Brazilian artist Ana Maria Tavares graduate at Artes from Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado (1982), received a MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Ph.D. from the Universidade de São Paulo (2000). In 2001, Tavares was granted the Guggenheim Fellowship. In 2007 she was the Ida Ely Rubin Artist-in-Residence at MIT and, in 2014, a Lynette S. Autrey Fellow at the Rice University?s Humanities Research Center. Tavares joined the art faculty at the Universidade de São Paulo in 1993, mentoring generations of Brazilian artists. Working across a variety of media, Tavares? exhibitions has been shown extensively in Brazil and internationally and her work is in many important collections including the Kröller Müller Museum, FRAC-Haute Normandie, Fundação de Serralves, Culturgest-Portugal, Museum of Fine Arts Houston; Pinacoteca de São Paulo, Museu de Arte Contemporânea da USP, Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo. Has experience in Arts, focusing on Plastic Arts, acting on the following subjects: arte contemporânea, escultura, instalação, artes plásticas and site-specific.
