Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP). Campus São Paulo. Instituto Nacional de Farmacologia (INFAR) (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal) Birthplace: Brazil
Graduated in Biological Sciences from Universidade Santo Amaro (1996), with a masters degree (2000), a doctorate (2004), and a postdoctoral fellowship (20042005) in Molecular Biology from Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP/EPM), under the supervision of Professor Helena Bonciani Nader, Ph.D. Since 2005, he has been a faculty member at the Department of Cell Biology at Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR), initially joining as an Assistant Professor (Adjunto I) and currently holding the position of Full Professor since 2023. Throughout his career, he has held various administrative roles, including Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Cell and Molecular Biology (20092013), Director of the Biological Sciences Division (20182022), and Institutional Coordinator of UFPRs Scientific and Technological Initiation Program (20232024).His current research focuses on the investigation of bioactive compounds with antitumor potential against melanoma, emphasizing polysaccharides from diverse sources (animal, plant, mushroom, and marine algae), either native or chemically modified. The projects explore molecular mechanisms related to proteoglycans, glycosaminoglycans, and extracellular matrix proteins, evaluating their effects on the tumor microenvironment, including the regulation of processes such as migration, invasion, and tumor cell growth. These studies aim to identify innovative therapeutic agents with reduced toxicity and lower costs, capable of acting either alone or as adjuvants to conventional therapies, contributing to advancements in the treatment of aggressive neoplasms, such as metastatic melanoma.
