Grace Bungenstab Alves

Associate Professor of Physical Geography at the Department of Geography, Institute of Geosciences, Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), Brazil. She holds a Ph.D. in Physical Geography from the University of São Paulo (2014), an M.Sc. (2010), a B.A. (2006), and a B.Sc. (2007) in Geography from the State University of Maringá. Her expertise lies in Geosciences, with emphasis on Physical Geography, Pedology, Geomorphology, Critical Physical Geography, and Geography Education. Her research focuses on soil formation and evolution, pedogeomorphology in tropical and semiarid environments, geosystemic analysis, laterites, landscape evolution, natural disaster risk, and teacher education. At UFBA, she coordinated the PIBID Geography program (20172018), the outreach project From Soils to Landscapes (2020), and served as Deputy Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Geography (20212023). She was also Associate Coordinator of the Extreme Events Chamber within the Salvador Climate Change Panel. Currently, she is a member of the Advanced Network on Soil and Landscape Studies (SOPA), the Bahia Soil Science Network, and co-leads the research group COLAPSO Nature and Society.Since 2021, she has served as Secretary of the Brazilian Geomorphology Union (UGB), is a member of the editorial board of the Revista Brasileira de Geomorfologia (since 11/2023), and coordinates the Soil Genesis and Morphology Committee (since 01/2024) under Division I Soil in Space and Time of the Northeast Regional Branch of the Brazilian Soil Science Society (SBCS). At the international level, she has been part of the organizing committee of the International Geomorphology Week (promoted by the International Association of Geomorphologists IAG) since 2021.
