Thiago Rhys Bezerra Cass is Assistant Professor of English at the University of Sao Paulo. He is also adjunct lecturer in Comparative Literature at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Member of the International Association for the Study of Scottish Literatures since 2014, he is the author of two book-length studies on James Macpherson's Ossian: Sombras no paraíso: dos Poemas de Ossian à prosa indianista de José de Alencar (Nankin Editorial, 2013) and Ossian: entre a epopeia e o romance (Nankin Editorial, 2021). Throughout this project, one proposes a study on the downfall of an epic universe in two poems ascribed to Ossian, Fingal and Temora. One will try to evaluate such poems within a context of transformation of the Scottish society and of reconsideration of literary forms of representing reality and experience, which were crucial to the development of the novel and of lyric poetry.
Our aim is to carry out a research project at the University of Toronto, Canada. We intend to explain the relationship between the configuration of the epics ascribed to Ossian -- Fingal and Temora -- with the eighteenth-century novel.Keywords: Ossian; epic; novel; Eighteenth century. (AU)
