I am a full professor at the Faculty of Education of the University of São Paulo, I graduated in Physics at the University of São Paulo (1984) , did my master's degree in Science Teaching at the same university (1988). I did my PhD in Epistemology and History of Science at the University of Paris VII (1992) and my Habilitation at the Faculty of Education of the University of São Paulo (2004).I started my teaching career as a high school physics teacher (1984-1988). I was also a professor at the Physics Department of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (1993-2002). I served as Secretary of Teaching for the Brazilian Society of Physics for two terms (1999-2001 and 2001-2003). I was a member of the International Commission on Physics Education (2002-2005) and then became its vice-president (2005-2008).I was an international correspondent member of the RESHEIS team (Recherches Epistémologiques et Historiques sur les Sciences Exactes et Instituitions scientifiques). I was a visiting researcher at the University of Maryland and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (2010). In 2013/2014 I was a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Advanced Research Collaborative and the Urban Education Program at the City University of New York. He was associat Editor of the Science And Education journal between 2019-2024.I have participated in the organization of several events, national and international, of research in science education. Currently, I research and develop teaching materials on innovative strategies in Science Education and Teacher Training and in particular on the topic of "science education in the Risk Society".
