Abstract

This work reports the preliminary synthesis of porous chromium carbide by microwave-assisted carbothermal reduction of simple reactants, Cr2O3 and carbon black, in only 20 min of reaction time. XRD revealed well crystalized chromium carbides, depending the reaction parameters as forward power and time. The particles morphology is a hollow sphere-like morphology, with porous walls, confirmed by SEM, with potential application as microfiltration and thermal barrier coating. The neck size of walls is a time-temperature dependent. (AU)
