Abstract

ABSTRACT Our article discusses the six paintings by the German naturalized-Italian artist Massimo Campigli which belong to the MAC USP collection. This set, not yet analyzed in depth by the historiography of art in Brazil, will be discussed in the broader context of Campigli’s production. Therefore, we recovered Campigli’s biographical aspects and that of his production, and then indicated their path until they integrate the collection of the former MAM-SP. Finally, we present a plastic analysis and the final considerations. To discuss the paintings, we rely on autobiographical writings, exhibition catalogs, critical texts, and information provided by the São Paulo Biennial Archive and Campigli’s Archive. Regarding the incorporation into the museum, we counted on the research by Professor Ana Gonçalves Magalhães. (AU)
