Abstract

Not only have the modes of teaching in higher education drastically changed in the last years but also the role of universities in society and economy. The changes, which are driven by among others, the global competition for students, academics and funding are unlikely to relent. This puts pressure on universities and also calls for business-approaches in higher education with an ever-growing need for data-driven decision-making. Based on higher education value chain studies, this paper discusses the opportunities and challenges for academic analytics to provide relevant information for decision-making and proposes a Business Intelligence delivery framework to maximize value generation. It contributes to the dialog on the role of academic information systems and business intelligence in higher education institutions for data-driven decision-making. (AU)
