Abstract

Passive Optical Networks (PONs) belonging to Infrastructure Providers are usually shared by diverse customers such as mobile network operators, virtual service providers, and multi-site enterprises. In this scenario, PON customers may own single or multiple Optical Network Units (ONUs). Moreover, some ONUs belonging to a customer can be underutilized, while others suffer bandwidth starvation. An excess distribution policy allows the redistribution of unused bandwidth, which is vital for the efficient usage of bandwidth in such unbalanced scenario. This paper presents a performance evaluation of the Interleaved Polling with Adaptive Cycle Time with multi-ONU SLAs support (MOS-IPACT) algorithm combined with different bandwidth distribution policies considering traditional and multi-ONU customers. Simulation results shows that the MOS-IPACT algorithm efficiently distributes the excess bandwidth among the ONUs of multi-ONU customers. Moreover, results show that MOS-IPACT does not compromise the overall available bandwidth. (AU)
