Abstract

Tetragonopterus lemniscatus, a new species of characid characiform, is described from the Corantijn river basin western Suriname. The species is readly distinguished from its congeners (T. argenteus, T. chalceus) by the presence of dark, longitudinal stripes positioned between adjacent scale rows of the lateral surface of the body.
