Abstract

Passive optical networks (PONs) provide high access capacity to multiple services and applications. However, the deployment of PONs involves significant costs. On the other hand, infrastructure provider (InP) can lease their PONs to several customers. In this paper, we introduce a novel dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) algorithm for 10G-EPON called subMOS-IPACT which assures bandwidth at different granularity: individual ONUs, multi-ONU customer, and ONU subgroups. A subgroup is a set of optical network units (ONUs) belonging to the same multi-ONU customer. subMOS-IPACT also prioritized bandwidth distribution among subgroups of the same multi-ONU customer. Simulation results show that the proposed mechanism improves the network performance of multi-ONU customers supporting different services. (AU)
