Abstract

This work deals with a new type of nondiffracting beam capable of providing arbitrary superficial intensity patterns along planes perpendicular to the plane of the aperture or generator. They are built by superimposing zeroth-order Bessel beams suitably disposed perpendicularly to the plane of aperture. The method here presented is robust and capable of being experimentally incorporated into imaging systems and can be used, for instance, in optical alignment, trapping and manipulation, holographic displays and so on.
