Abstract

Silver nanoparticles were synthesized using the aqueous extract of Mimusops coriacea leaves. This extract emits intense fluorescence at approximately 364, 450 and 510 nm when excited at 280, 368 and 432 nm, respectively. After the formation of the nanoparticles, there is a significant reduction in the emission intensity. The addition of soybean oils heated at similar to 180 degrees C to the nanoparticles increased in the emission intensity, varying with the degree of oxidation of the oil. This result indicates the potential of developing a nanosensor to determine the degree of thermoxidation of soybean oils. (AU)
