Abstract

Nowadays, Web systems generate an enormous amount of data that need to be organized, managed and retrieved in a more efficient and accurate way. Literature has brought these concerns, trying to develop techniques to allow the use of content by machines through Semantic Web technologies, such as Web ontologies. However these are still insufficient to adequately deal with aspects of information modelling, and knowledge representation. This paper studies and points out the shortcomings of these techniques, and proposes a new approach to better design Web ontologies aided by the Semantic Analysis Method (SAM) from Organisational Semiotics (OS). We have investigated a novel semi-automatic method that can lead to more representative Web ontologies. (AU)
