Abstract

This paper discusses the problem of parameter estimation in reduced external networks. Considering a linear model of the hill interconnected system and assuming the availability of both external topology and external current data, measured or forecast, we demonstrate how to estimate the parameters of the external equivalent network with adequate accuracy and speed. Phasor Measurement Units installed in boundary buses provide voltage and current phasors input to a least squares estimator that computes the equivalent network parameters. Tests in the IEEE-14 bus and 30-bus systems show the validity and accuracy of the model compared to the conventional procedure of network reduction. The estimated equivalent networks can be further applied to subsequent security-analysis tasks. (AU)
