Abstract

The reduction of CO2 emissions from vessels gain relevance after European regulations became more rigorous, monitoring and checking CO2 emissions in European Union (EU) ports. Based on these concerns, this work aims to study strategies to include lithium-ion batteries in a Platform Supply Vessel (PSV) diesel-electric system. Regarding the different operation strategies (Spinning reserve and Strategic loading), batteries can be considered to optimize the dispatch of diesel generators, aiming to reduce the consumption of fuel and the CO2 emissions. Minimum load level for diesel generators and battery characteristics such as power, capacity, C-rate were analyzed to assess their impact in CO2 emissions. (AU)
