Abstract

Clinical data surveys indicate a significant number of deaths deriving from diseases in the human cardiovascular system (HCS). This is one of the main motivations for identifying problems in this system and ways for solving them totally or partially. In this work, HCS is modeled as a hybrid system (discrete event systems combined with systems of continuous variables) for a more detailed characterization of this system functioning, by applying the formalism of the Differential Hybrid Petri Net (DHPN). The analysis of this model, using Matlab (R)/Simulink, presented consistent results when compared with clinical data, regarding physiological variables, such as blood pressure and blood flow rate, indicating the validity of this model.
