Abstract | |
ABSTRACT The concepts of “liberty”, “order,” and “revolution” are central to the political lexicon in Brazil from the breakdown of the socio-political system of the First Republic though Getúlio Vargas’s Estado Novo, organizing the political outlooks and action plans of various currents. This article analyzes the mobilization of these three concepts by reactionary Catholicism, with emphasis on its leader, Alceu Amoroso Lima, by the fascist writer Otávio de Faria, and by Sérgio Buarque de Holanda in texts published between 1928 and 1936. It demonstrates instances of conceptual innovation, seeking to establish the specificity of their uses and their discursive performance in the public sphere. (AU) | |
