Abstract

In this paper, we present an assessment of different methodologies of high-fidelity simulations for the flow analysis and aeroacoustic prediction of realistic landing gear configurations. The numerical approaches consist of detached eddy simulations performed by a classical unsteady CFD formulation that solves the Navier-Stokes equations and a Lattice Boltzmann solver. The impact of geometry complexity on the flow field is also investigated. In this context, different configurations are analyzed including a detailed landing gear and a simplified, yet realistic, configuration. The acoustic prediction of such a complex aeronautical system depends on a number of parameters. Although the different simulations follow a similar procedure for the far-field aeroacoustic prediction, several differences in terms of the numerical methodology, geometrical detailing, mesh discretization, and post-processing strategy may lead to discrepancies in the results. This work aims at identifying the impact of such differences on aeroacoustic predictions of realistic large-scale airframe configurations. Another objective of this work consists of the identification and analysis of noise sources in realistic landing gears. We expect that this work can be used as a guide for aeroacoustic predictions of realistic landing gears. This is a necessary step for the development of strategies for noise mitigation in such complex systems. (AU)
