Abstract

This work presents a method for enhancing and evaluating optical edge-coupling employing microlenses in photonic integrated circuits (PICs) by monitoring the reflected signal of the Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) formed between the elements. By measuring the free spectral range (FSR) of the FPI, it is possible to evaluate key parameters, such as the length and refractive index of the coupling region. When combined with an iterative positioning scheme, this method can be applied to automate and improve the alignment process between a microlens and an integrated waveguide. (AU)
