Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the playing preference of a hundred Brazilian children and adolescents aged between six and fourteen years old. The majority of boys and girls prefer rule-based games in open spaces. Girls chose as a favorite game “volley”, “basketball” or “queimada”. Boys chose “soccer” and “videogame”. The favorite game was mainly played at home with brothers/sisters and/or schoolmates, once or twice a week. Adults were rarely cited as partners. Finally, it was verified that the games and toys are still important in the life of children and adolescents, specially the rule-based games in open spaces and the electronic games. (AU)
