| Abstract | |
Researching women’s participation in youth groups, from 1999 to 200, I could notice that hip-hop movement and punk-anarchist movement, despite of being masculine spaces, were spaces of less unequal relations, where those young women were accepted, but in certain restricted ways. They ‘caught’ this acception and transform it into a discourse of giving value to the “being woman”, denouncing discriminations and unequal relations in the movements, building new relations – into groups of women or mixed groups –, opening spaces for other women, breaking traditional models of socialization, building also diferent movements, in which young men were having to learn that power could be more equally distributed. The importance of their ‘youth’ was more in their participation in hip-hop and punk-anarchist styles - that are youth styles -, participation that produced gender and racial meanings that they were building, fundamental to the constitution of their identities.
