FAPESP Information Technology in the Development of Advanced Internet Program (TIDIA) aimed at transforming the Internet into an object of research as well as training specialists in the development of Internet technologies. It proposed partnerships with companies in the telecommunications sector and the creation of a high velocity fiber optic network to connect, initially, São Paulo, Campinas and São Carlos and, at a later date, other municipalities in the State of São Paulo. This network was developed as a testing ground for research projects submitted to the Program and implemented via academic networks.
