Atmospheric argon plasma in healing of excision and burned skin wounds on diabetic induced rats

Abstract

The objective of this project is to study the effects of an equipment able to generate reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, ROS and RNS, in the healing process of wounds by excision and burning in diabetic and non-diabetic mices. The evaluation will be on days 2, 7, 14 and 21 to follow probable modification during the healing process. This work becomes important because the number of people with Diabetes is considerable, 10-12% of world population and with positive trends due to the disease is associated with elderly, stress, life style and nutrition. People with diabetes, some of them will develop under members wounds, like diabetic feet, and in most of these cases it becomes refractory with traditional healing treatments, as chronic wounds. However, it trends to have an inflation due to microorganisms in the affected area and associated with vascularization disease can reach an amputation case. Thus, an equipment with potential to decrease or stop this scenery becomes interesting by social aspects, to reduce pain and bring life quality to these patients with diabetic feet, but also in the economic view too, mainly to public health care system, which invest large quantities of money to control this issue, but without success. The conclusion of this project will allow the startup apply for a Clinic Study in humans to finish the research phase and initiate the commercialization and business acceleration. (AU)
