THIRTY YEARS OF RURAL SETTLEMENTS: THE AGING PROCESS ON THE SETTLES OF PONTAL DO PARANAPANEMA AND ITS EFFECTS ON LIVING CONDITIONS

Abstract

Population aging is a global and contemporary phenomenon. This fact is a result of the progressive reduction of fertility rates, mortality and increased life expectancy, in addition to advances in public policies and governmental programs However, it is noteworthy that these advances, mostly care for the elderly living in urban areas, to the detriment of the elderly living in rural areas. In addition, the issue of aging in rural areas is gaps, since studies in this field are scarce, especially in agrarian reform settlements. In this sense, the general objective of this research will be to understand the aging process of the elderly and the elderly who saw in the struggle for land conquest a chance of life and work, as well as their implications on living conditions. Therefore, the specific objectives are to understand the meanings and resignification of aging, the perception of the elderly and the elderly about the aging process, and to investigate the perception that the family of these actors has about this process. The research universe will take place in six (6) pre-selected rural settlements. The methodological apparatus will have a quantitative and qualitative approach. Thus, first, the semi-structured questionnaire will be used to answer sociodemographic questions. The second research instrument will be the life history, in order to glimpse the trajectories, experiences and perceptions of these elderly and rural elderly in front of the aging process. With this, it is intended to fill gaps in this process of aging in the rural environment to the bodies responsible for the development and implementation of public policies and programs the knowledge consistent with the Brazilian rural reality.
