Abstract

The project aims at the modernization and expansion of the research infrastructure of the Geological institute, of the State of São Paulo Environment Secretariat, to subsidize public policies in the environmental area. In the plan, four strategic areas were prioritized among all institutional areas: Evaluation and monitoring of risks and disasters related to extreme geodynamic events; Hydrogeological characterization and protection of the aquifers of the State of São Paulo; Geomorphological and climatic surveys of the State of São Paulo; and Conservation of Collections. The plan is based on the following specific objectives: to update and expand the capacity to carry out research on the Evolution and Monitoring of Risks and Disasters related to extreme geodynamic events; to modernize and expand the capacity to conduct research on hydrogeological characterization and protection of aquifers; to modernize and expand the capacity to conduct research on geomorphological and climatic surveys; to modernize the laboratories of Geological Analysis, Geoprocessing and Kirstie Hydrosystems; to implant the laboratories of Hydrogeology and Experimental Climatology; to modernize and expand the capacity of conservation and scientific divulgation of Collections; and to modernize database systems. The results of these actions are intended to: increase and improve the capacity of research, innovation, training, and the establishment of partnerships and technologic transfer and knowledge to government, society and business; also, to promote methodological advances, generating information and knowledge used by public policies and sectoral plans. The following are among the last: Operation and Support to Preventive and Contingency Plans of Civil Defense (PPDC), Management and Support to the State Program of Natural Disaster Prevention and Geological Hazards Reduction (PND), Environmental Education, Public Document Management, State Policy of Water Resources (PERH); to contribute to the improvement of the strategy programs of the State of São Paulo Environment Secretariat, with emphasis on: Environmental Licensing; Environmental Quality Report; Ecological-Economic Zoning (ZEE) of the State of São Paulo; Green and Blue Municipality Program; Plans for the Management of Conservation Units, and the Management of the Geological Heritage of São Paulo.
