Abstract
Introduction: Value-based Health Care - VBHC is a Health System reform proposed by Porter and Teisberg that is gradually being implemented in many health systems worldwide. Yet, there is still no evidence of its implementation in Latin America (LatAm) countries. Aim: In this project, we aim to gain a wider knowledge of the implementation of the main components of the VBHC model in Latin America countries, and propose an implementation framework that adapts the model to the Latin America context, by taking into account the cultural, social and economic differences of LatAm Health Systems.Methods: Multiple case studies. Qualitative methods will include semi-structured interviews and analysis of relevant documents, including meeting notes, national and international health policy documents, complemented with on-site visits to organizations implementing VBHC in each country. Quantitative methods will be based on the application of a questionnaire to different stakeholders involved in the implementation of VBHC (e.g. policy makers, health managers, clinicians, and patients) and on the analysis of aggregated data on outcomes and costs, if available, in each institution.
