Abstract

Globalization and climate change enhances the transmission of life-threatening diseases through mosquitoes from the genre Aedes and Anopheles. The problem is increasing steadily both in America and Europe. The usage of chemical means for the control of mosquitoes and larvae leads to increased resistance to common insecticides. Furthermore, insecticides are a source of side effects and health risk. For those reasons, the development of larvicides based on alternative mechanisms is needed. This project explores the suitability of larval photodynamic inactivation for that purpose (AU)
