Abstract
A peripheral facial palsy can be defined as a decrease or abolition of facial nerve function and is responsible for the innervation of facial mimics and important physiological functions. The degree of impairment of facial paralysis will define its rehabilitation, so it is necessary to know the myofunctional orofacial conditions and thus propose the best treatment plan for the individual. Objective is to evaluate a relationship between myofunctional performance, as physical or social forces or resources, as an influence of its gravity. Forty adults will be selected to compose the experimental group, of both genders, between 18 and 59 years of age, with peripheral facial paralysis with up to two years of involvement, without distinction of race and socioeconomic, referred for speech-language evaluation, in the Otorhinolaryngology and Speech and Hearing Therapy Specialized Center, Clinical Hospital, Medical School of Ribeirão Preto, University of São Paulo. The control group consists of 20 subjects, matched for gender and age, without facial paralysis. As a non-participant exclusion criterion, subjects with genetic syndromes, cognitive and / or mental disorders, users of upper and lower total dental prosthesis and patients with other neuromuscular disorders other than peripheral facial paralysis. Criteria for all groups will be adopted. To be informed of an interview, an orofacial myofunctional evaluation with facial scores and mimics, identification of the degree of facial paralysis, investigation of the forces of lips and cheeks, and a kinematic three-dimensional analysis of facial movements. For analysis of the results, after the identification of the distribution of samples and correlation test applications among variables proposed by the JMP Software, with a significance level of 5%.
