SUPERCAPACITORS ENGINEERING: MAXIMIZING EFFICIENCY IN ELECTROCHEMICAL ENERGY STORAGE

Abstract

Supercapacitors are now a priority in the search for efficient ways of storing energy. In this project we propose the investigation of means to increase the efficiency of supercapacitors as well as to extend their horizon of applications. By using of computational simulation techniques of molecular dynamics we will cover three topics related to the storage of electrochemical energy in electrical double layers of supercapacitors. The first one refers to the rational development of better electrolytes where we seek to increase the efficiency of the supercapacitor by varying the properties of the electrolytic solutions. The second topic is directed to the trend of advancement in the areas of integrated bioelectronics research. Here we propose the engineering of a supercapacitor biologically compatible with ecological properties such as non-toxicity and biodegradability. Finally, in the third, we will investigate the properties of new two-dimensional materials, such as phosphorene and borophene, as electrodes for supercapacitors. (AU)
