Abstract

According to common sense, risk if the opposite of safety. This view is not necessarily shared by healthcare professionals, since in health services safety has just recently started to be institucionalized. These stakeholders are fundamental to implement safety actions regarding workers and patients. This research aims at understanding how they understand risk, The assumption is that this concept can be understood as quality, epidemiology or image, depending on who the managers are, what they have done or studied.This will be searched with managers from different kinds of hospitals, according to ownership, location and specialty, in a sample of 48. This will help the development of strategies to deal with safety and risk, to be validated by these professionals. The results won´t be meant for the circa 6000 brazilian hospitals, but they might help managers and policy makers to design mechanisms to deal with these relevant issues; (AU)
